Characterization of the Alphabet Reform Painting

The Alphabet Reform painting which shows Ataturk teaching the new alphabet is important for history of Republic Turkey. This was made by Nazmi Ziya GÜRAN in 1933. now maintained Ministry Interior. In this work, analyzed characterization and restoration purposes. fabric canvas, pigments (organic-inorganic) binder paint were characterized Fourier Transform infrared spectroscopy-attenuated total reflectance (ATR-FTIR), scanning electron microscopy-energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (SEM-EDX) high-performance liquid chromatography-coupled with diode array detection (HPLC-DAD) analysis methods. CIEL*a*b* color parameters determined measurement spectrophotometer. According to results; canvas found be fibers vegetable origin binders linseed oil dammar varnish. Red alizarin (madder lake organic pigment) dark blue ultramarine detected as while CdS (yellow), Pb red (flesh color), PbCO3 (white), ZnO BaSO4 FeO (brown) Cr2O3 (green color) inorganic ones.
